Postdoctoral Researcher in Croatian Studies (Philology) – Language Variation in Early Modern Croatian Books
The University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, announces a vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher in the field of Philology, branch of Croatian Studies. This full-time, fixed-term position is funded by the Croatian Science Foundation research project entitled “Language variation in Croatian books of the Early Modern period (based on the Gospels corpus)” (IP-2025-02-2567), led by Assistant Professor Ivana Eterović at the Department of Croatian Language and Literature. The appointment is for 1 year and 4 months, or at the latest until 30 November 2027.
The research project focuses on the analysis of language variation in Croatian texts from the Early Modern period, utilizing a corpus of Gospels. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment, contributing to the study of historical linguistics, textual analysis, and corpus linguistics within Croatian Studies. The position offers an opportunity to engage in advanced research, collaborate with faculty, and participate in scientific, teaching, and professional activities.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Croatian studies, linguistics, or related branches in philology. Candidates should have been engaged in scientific research for up to ten years since enrollment in their doctoral programme, with possible extensions for maternity/parental leave or illness. Foreign applicants must provide a certificate of proficiency in the Croatian language (advanced level) and recognition of their diploma by Croatian authorities. Required documents include a signed CV (maximum 1 page), certificate from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, proof of education and academic title, bibliography and offprints, detailed presentation of scientific, teaching, and professional activities, proof of citizenship, and evidence of any previous selection to an academic title. All materials must be submitted electronically on a USB flash drive and supported by evidence in PDF format.
The position is funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, with salary funding provided in accordance with HRZZ project rules. Both genders are encouraged to apply.
