Postdoc in Time-Resolved Soft X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy of Correlated Materials at Fritz Haber Institute

Postdoctoral opening at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin for research on time-resolved soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy of correlated materials . The position is in the Department of Physical Chemistry, led by Prof. Martin Wolf , and is connected to the Ultrafast Core-Level Spectroscopy Group led by Dr. Ugaitz Elu . The project focuses on ultrafast science , quantum materials , 2D van der Waals materials , strongly correlated systems , and electron–lattice dynamics . The successful candidate will work with a newly developed lab-based tr-XAS beamline and may collaborate with Prof. Jens Biegert at ICFO, Barcelona. Research themes include photoinduced ultrafast phase transitions, Mott physics, electron–phonon coupling, phonon-assisted optical processes, and femtosecond structural/electronic dynamics. There is also the possibility to develop and perform liquid-jet tr-XAS experiments. Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in physics or a related subject; experience with advanced ultrafast pump-probe X-ray absorption spectroscopy; strong background in solid state physics, many-body physics, and electron correlation; experience with strongly correlated systems or 2D van der Waals materials; strong English communication skills; and programming skills in Python, MATLAB, Wolfram Mathematica, and EPICS. Experience with beamline instrumentation, FDMNES, or DFT tools such as Quantum ESPRESSO and Elk is advantageous. Funding and conditions: the postdoc is initially limited to 2 years and paid under the TVÖD-E13 public servant scheme. The institute also offers a world-class laboratory environment, technical training, and additional professional development opportunities. How to apply: submit the application through the online portal as soon as possible, including a CV, publication list, and names and email addresses of three references. The position remains open until filled.
