3 Fully Funded PhD Positions in 6G Networks, AI, and XaaS Architectures at University of Antwerp

The University of Antwerp, in collaboration with imec and the IDLab research group, is offering three fully funded PhD positions in the field of next-generation networks, focusing on 6G, AI for networks, and X-as-a-Service (XaaS) architectures. These positions are part of the Programmable & Intelligent Networks group, led by Prof. Johann M. Marquez-Barja, Dr. Nina Slamnik-Kriještorac, and Dr. Miguel Camelo. The research will address cutting-edge topics such as self-driving 6G networks, efficient AI for network management, and the development of programmable service platforms for future communication systems. PhD candidates will have the opportunity to work on projects including zero-touch automation for resilient beyond-5G/6G networks, resource-aware AI for next-generation communication systems, and the design of XaaS paradigms for 6G. The research environment is highly international and collaborative, with strong ties to industry and access to advanced experimental platforms. The positions are based in Antwerp, Belgium, at the City Campus (The Beacon) and Campus Groenenborger. Applicants should hold a master’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, with excellent academic results. Preferred qualifications include experience in communication networks, distributed systems, cloud/edge computing, programming (Python, C/C++), and familiarity with AI/ML, virtualization, SDN/NFV, and orchestration platforms. Proficiency in English is required. Candidates must submit a motivation letter, academic CV with transcript, two reference letters, an English proficiency certificate, and a short research proposal aligned with the research topics. The doctoral scholarship is fully funded for one year, renewable up to four years, with a monthly stipend according to university rates. Additional benefits include eco vouchers, internet-connectivity allowance, and transportation support. Doctoral researchers will have access to a wide range of courses and educational credit through the Antwerp Doctoral School. The application deadline is April 23, 2026. Applications must be submitted via the University of Antwerp’s online platform using the official links. For further information, candidates may contact the supervisors directly via email.
