The MSCA Doctoral Network-Joint Doctorates MultiLAwa offers 14 fully funded PhD positions across leading European universities, coordinated by Université de Lorraine. Supported by the European Commission, this international, interdisciplinary, and intersectorial network focuses on plurilingualism, multilingualism, and language awareness as drivers of social cohesion and inclusion. The research agenda explores the interconnections between language awareness, pluri-/multilingualism, and digitality, extending into language learning, teaching, policy, lexicography, terminology, and digital practices. Each PhD position is a joint doctorate between two partner universities, with academic co-supervisors from both institutions and planned secondments at associated research centers or industry partners. The research topics span discourses on language awareness in digital society, language ideologies in industry and politics, multilingual digital literacy, gender and ethnicity in digital dictionaries, AI-generated texts, European language policy, comparative analysis of institutional actors, indigenous and minority languages, lexicographic systems for tourism and circular economy, fintech terminology, language learning motivation, migration languages in education, and data-driven approaches with corpora and GenAI. Partner universities include Université de Lorraine (France), University of Innsbruck (Austria), University of Vienna (Austria), University of Zurich (Switzerland), Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany), University of Mannheim (Germany), University of Copenhagen (Denmark), University of Milan (Italy), University of Warsaw (Poland), and Nova University Lisbon (Portugal). Associated partners range from the Swiss National Bank to UNESCO, Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and Lexical Computing. Successful candidates will benefit from a comprehensive doctoral training programme, a dedicated team of experts, a Personal Career Development Plan, and local individual training at their host universities. The remuneration package includes a full-time employment contract for 36 months, a monthly living allowance of EUR 4010 (gross), a mobility allowance of EUR 710, and a family allowance of EUR 660 if applicable. Additional allowances for long-term leave and special needs are available, with salary subject to country correction coefficients and national deductions. Eligibility requires a relevant master's degree (Arts, Translation, Education, Science, or equivalent) in linguistics or related disciplines with high marks (at least high honour / >70% distinction). Applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree and must meet the MSCA mobility rule (not have resided or worked in the recruiting country for more than 12 months in the past 3 years). At least B2 level proficiency in German and English is required, with evidence via language certificates. Knowledge of additional languages is advantageous. The application deadline is 8 July 2026. The selection process includes preselection by PhD supervision committees, notification of results, online interviews, and final selection by mid-September 2026. The MultiLAwa project starts on 1 September 2026, with PhD positions commencing on 1 November 2026.
