Postdoc in Corrosion, Local Electrochemistry, and Machine Learning for DataCoIn at Université libre de Bruxelles

Université libre de Bruxelles is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the DataCoIn project, with a strong focus on corrosion , local electrochemistry , materials science , and machine learning . The position is centered in the ChemSIN group of Prof. Jon Ustarroz and targets the electrochemical study of additively manufactured aluminium alloys using high-throughput SECCM mapping. The project is especially attractive for candidates who enjoy data-heavy experimental science. A single SECCM map can generate up to 200,000 data samples, and a full campaign may produce roughly 40–60 million datapoints and around 150 GB of raw data. The main scientific challenge is not only running the experiments, but also extracting insight through advanced data analysis, feature selection, model development, and transfer learning. Research activities include high-throughput SECCM measurements (potentiodynamic polarisation and chronoamperometry) on AM and conventional aluminium alloys, correlative microscopy of SECCM footprints (SEM, μ-Raman, μ-XPS, EBSD), and building electrochemical descriptor databases linked with macro-scale data from UMONS and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Eligibility highlights include a background in corrosion and local electrochemistry , plus proven experience in Python-based data analysis ; machine learning expertise is strongly desirable. The appointment is full-time and lasts 33 months from April 2026 to December 2028 . The post is part of a consortium involving UMONS , ULB , and VUB under the F.R.S.-FNRS/Weave framework. To apply, contact Prof. Jon Ustarroz directly at [email protected] for the full details and application process.
