PhD in Generative AI for Quantitative MRI at King's College London (Marie Skłodowska-Curie)
King's College London is offering a fully funded PhD position as part of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network. The research focuses on developing generative AI models for quantitative MRI, combining advanced machine learning, MRI physics, and clinical translation. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of computer science, biomedical engineering, and medical imaging, with opportunities for scientific secondments at leading European institutions such as Amsterdam UMC, University of Antwerp, and Institut Curie.
The project aims to address the limited availability of quantitative MRI datasets by developing innovative generative models using vector quantised variational autoencoders (VQ-VAE) and transformer architectures. The research will involve synthesising realistic qMRI data, developing physics-aware models, and creating tools for biomarker extraction, segmentation, and classification. The work has significant potential to improve the robustness and generalizability of AI tools in clinical settings.
The position offers comprehensive training in advanced machine learning for medical applications, scientific computing, image processing, and image acquisition. The candidate will be part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment at the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King's College London, and will benefit from international collaboration and exposure to both academic and industrial partners.
Applicants must have a Master's degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, medical imaging, mathematics, or a related field, with a strong background in machine learning and deep learning (especially generative models), programming experience in Python and PyTorch, and knowledge of medical image processing. Candidates must meet the MSCA mobility rule and demonstrate excellent communication skills. Desirable qualifications include experience with quantitative MRI, VQ-VAE, MRI physics, and relevant publications.
The position is fully funded for 3 years, with a competitive salary package including living, mobility, and family allowances as per MSCA regulations. The application deadline is 4 January 2026.
