Fully Funded PhD in Mathematical Modelling of Alzheimer’s Disease Progression and Quantitative Systems Pharmacology

PhD opportunity at the University of Queensland in mathematical modelling , quantitative systems pharmacology , and Alzheimer’s disease progression . The Molecular and Systems Medicine Group, together with Jürgen Götz’s group, is recruiting a PhD candidate to develop multiscale models that connect molecular and cellular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease to clinical outcomes. The project combines mathematical modelling, patient-level data analytics (including collaboration with CSIRO), and preclinical experimental data to support more effective therapeutic strategies for neurodegeneration. This is a fully funded scholarship project under a Fellowship support scheme. Funding includes a tax-free living stipend of AUD 37,500 per year (2026 rate, indexed annually) and tuition fees covered . The opportunity is available to Australian/NZ citizens or permanent residents and is not available to international students . Preferred background includes engineering, mathematics, physics, or mathematical biology, with a strong interest or experience in mathematical modelling of biological systems. The selection process considers academic record, publication record, honours and awards, and employment history. Applicants must submit an expression of interest (EOI) for the PhD program and do not need to apply separately for the project or scholarship. In the EOI, select the advertised project option, enter the project as Fellowship project scholarship , and use scholarship code ALZHEIMERS-PADMANABHAN . The project requires commencement no later than Research Quarter 4, 2026 ; the listed closing date for RQ4 is 2026-06-30 . For questions about fit or suitability, contact Dr Pranesh Padmanabhan at [email protected] .
