Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Environmental Social Science: Climate-Driven Loss and Damage in the Pacific

The University of Queensland is recruiting two Postdoctoral Research Fellows for a flagship ARC Industry Laureate Fellowship focused on climate-driven loss and damage in the Pacific . This is a research-intensive opportunity in environmental social science and related fields, with work centred on reciprocal partnerships with communities and a consortium of policy and practice partners in the Cook Islands, Fiji, and Vanuatu . The project is described as deeply applied, community-embedded, and values-led, with emphasis on non-economic losses , cultural continuity , and locally led responses. The post is especially relevant for scholars interested in Pacific studies , community-based research , policy translation , governance , and ethical relational research practice. The announcer strongly encourages applications from Pacific Islander scholars and from researchers whose work is grounded in Pacific community and governance contexts. Applicants should have experience working closely with communities, be open to extended periods of in-country engagement in the Pacific, and be interested in translating research into policy and practice. The post is a postdoctoral role; no PhD call or masters call is indicated. The application deadline is 21 May 2026 . Full details and the position description are available through the linked University of Queensland careers page.
