Managing Director
for the
HBS AI Institute
in Boston, Massachusetts. This is a senior leadership role focused on advancing the Institute’s work across

, and the operational scaling of research, learning, and external partnerships.
The Managing Director will serve as the administrative head of the Institute and work closely with faculty leadership and senior HBS administration. Responsibilities include aligning research initiatives, supporting faculty collaboration, translating research into educational offerings, managing operations and staffing, budgeting and planning, and overseeing external engagement with companies, policymakers, and global organizations. The role also supports shared capabilities such as technical and data science resources, events, communications, and operational support.
Eligibility highlights include at least
10 years of relevant leadership experience
, preferably in academic, research, or innovation-focused settings. A
bachelor’s degree
is required, and an advanced degree such as a
Ph.D.
is preferred. Strong collaboration, communication, stakeholder management, and experience in matrixed academic environments are emphasized. Familiarity with AI or emerging technologies is helpful but not mandatory.
This is a
full-time staff position
at Harvard University, salary grade 061, with university benefits. Harvard notes that it cannot provide visa sponsorship for this position. The role is hybrid, with onsite presence expected at least three days per week in Boston. A
