Hokkaido University’s Research Institute for Electronic Science (RIES) is recruiting an Assistant Professor to join the Kobayashi Group / Laboratory of Emergent Electronic Materials. The position centers on chalcogenide thin-film synthesis , novel electronic materials , and related studies in condensed matter physics , including semiconductors, magnetism, superconductivity, strongly correlated systems, and thin film/surface/interface physics. The successful candidate will contribute to research and education in the group, with teaching duties connected to the Faculty of Science / Graduate School of Science (condensed matter physics). The post is especially suitable for researchers with experience or interest in MBE , thin-film growth, and physical property measurements. Applicants from adjacent fields are also welcome, particularly those eager to collaborate on thin-film-based materials research. This is a non-tenure-track regular employee appointment for 5 years , with a possible 3-year extension after review. The annual salary starts at around 4 million yen and is governed by Hokkaido University rules. Standard social insurance is provided. Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. required or expected by the start date; strong research record; ability to work collaboratively with group members and other researchers; willingness to contribute to research, education, and lab management. Deadline: 2026-07-31. The university may close the search early once a suitable candidate is found.
