Copenhagen Business School

Postdoc in Behavioural Contagion, Computational Social Science, and Sustainable Behaviour

The Department of Management, Society and Communication at Copenhagen Business School is offering a three-year postdoctoral position in Behavioural Contagion, Computational Social Science, and Sustainable Behaviour. This opportunity is part of the research project (Un)sustainable Tipping Points, led by Associate Professor Kristian Roed Nielsen (PI) and Assistant Professor Alice Pizzo (co-PI). The project aims to empirically investigate how individual decision thresholds, social networks, and social contagion influence the emergence or failure of tipping points in sustainable behaviour transitions, focusing on positive feedback loops and systemic change. The postdoc will play a key role in both empirical and computational aspects of the project, including developing simulation-based models of social contagion, analysing large-scale longitudinal behavioural data, conducting network analyses, and designing behavioural experiments. The research is situated at the intersection of behavioural science and computational social science, with a strong orientation toward high-quality international publications. The position is non-tenured and funded for three years, with the possibility of a fourth year linked to teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to be physically present in Copenhagen and actively participate in the Consumer & Behavioural Insights Group and the MSC department. The department brings together scholars from management, communication, and broader social sciences, focusing on organizations in global environments and their interaction with society, business, and government. The Consumer & Behavioural Insights Group specializes in sustainability-related market research using quantitative methods. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field (economics, management sciences, communication sciences, or related), possess strong quantitative skills, and have experience with behavioural or longitudinal data. Proficiency in coding (R, Stata, Python), computational modelling, and network analysis is required. Professional proficiency in English is mandatory, while experience with project management, experimental design, primary data collection, and Danish language skills are advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate methodological rigor, intellectual independence, and the ability to integrate theory, data, and modelling into a coherent research agenda. Appointment and salary are in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation. The position is fully funded, and the start date is ideally September 2026, with some flexibility. Copenhagen Business School is committed to diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from all backgrounds. The recruitment process is designed to reduce bias, and applicants are advised not to include photos or unnecessary personal information. To apply, candidates must submit their application via the electronic recruitment system, including a cover letter, prioritised list of publications, copies of marked publications, documentation of research experience, transcripts, academic diplomas, and a full CV. The application deadline is 5 May 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be notified and assessed by the committee, and all applicants will be informed of the outcome.
