Postdoctoral Position in Agroforestry, Remote Sensing, and Deep Learning at University of Copenhagen
The University of Copenhagen's Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management is inviting applications for a two-year postdoctoral position focused on changes in agroforestry. The successful candidate will join TreeSense, the Center for Remote Sensing and Deep Learning of Global Tree Resources, and work within the Section for Geography. The research will leverage remote sensing and machine learning to characterize and quantify global woody vegetation dynamics, with a particular emphasis on agroforestry systems such as homegardens, forest farming, and silvopasture. The postdoctoral researcher will apply deep learning techniques to analyze the extent, types, and changes in major agroforestry systems, collaborating with local partners to co-produce stakeholder tools.
TreeSense offers a vibrant, international research environment, with a team comprising principal investigators, postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduates. The postdoc will lead data analysis, contribute to writing research papers, and have opportunities to supervise MSc and PhD students. The position also involves presenting findings at regional and international conferences. The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management conducts interdisciplinary research on the Earth's physical, chemical, and biological environments and their interactions with human systems, supporting sustainable solutions for society.
Applicants should have a PhD in remote sensing, environmental sciences, geography, land system science, or a related field. Essential skills include experience with deep learning, remote sensing, land cover mapping, and handling large-scale datasets. Strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as excellent English proficiency, are required. Desirable qualifications include experience with causal inference and a strong publication record in land system science. The position is full-time, starting June 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, and is covered by standard Danish university postdoc employment agreements. Salary is according to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, with the possibility of negotiation.
To apply, submit your application in English electronically, including a motivated letter, CV, diplomas, and publication list. The deadline for applications is March 26, 2026.
