Senior Postdoctoral Researcher: Optically Pumped Magnetometry (OPM) for Magnetoencephalography (MEG)

The Translational Neuromodeling Unit (TNU) at ETH Zürich, in partnership with the University of Zurich, is seeking a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to advance research in optically pumped magnetometry (OPM) for magnetoencephalography (MEG). The TNU is a leading center for computational neuroscience, integrating neuroscientists, computational scientists, and clinicians to develop and clinically evaluate models of brain function. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary team and work in state-of-the-art facilities, including a newly established OPM-MEG laboratory equipped with a custom magnetically shielded room. The role involves both theoretical and experimental research, focusing on developing and validating novel OPM-MEG methods and experimental paradigms. Key research areas include motion robustness, naturalistic paradigms, VR/AR integration, simultaneous brain-body recordings, individualized and high-throughput imaging. The researcher will also contribute to supervising PhD and MSc students and participate in teaching activities. The position is initially funded for one year, with the possibility of extension, and is classified at the ETH level of Oberassistent/in (Established Researcher). Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field, and demonstrate expertise in OPM-MEG, strong programming and computational/statistical skills, and excellent communication abilities. Experience with Julia, Matlab, open source software, and neuroimaging analysis packages (SPM, FieldTrip) is desirable. ETH Zürich offers an international, interdisciplinary, and supportive academic environment, with a commitment to diversity, sustainability, and robust scientific practices. Applications must be submitted online and include a motivation letter, CV, publication list, and referee contacts. For further information, candidates may contact Dr. László Demkó or Prof. Klaas Enno Stephan (enquiries only).
