Contemporary Cultures of Text
Aarhus University’s Department of Comparative Literature and Rhetoric, within the School of Communication and Culture, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a full-time, two-year fixed-term position affiliated with the TEXT: Center for Contemporary Cultures of Text. The position is set to begin on 1 February 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment focused on how artificial intelligence is transforming text culture. The project’s working language is English, and the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to engage in critical, theoretically informed research on AI’s impact on text culture, participate in empirical studies (such as survey designs, corpus studies, and experimental setups), and collaborate on projects exploring AI-driven creativity and co-creation in text. The role also involves contributing to the center’s broader research initiatives and academic outreach. While primarily research-based, the position includes a small teaching and supervision component at both BA and MA levels, with teaching expected in both English and Danish. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (NLP, literature, information science, media studies, or similar) and demonstrate an internationally oriented research profile, strong theoretical and analytical skills, experience with empirical research methods, interdisciplinary collaboration, and university-level teaching experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Additional advantages include a strong publication record, participation in research networks, and international research experience. Applicants must submit a research proposal (1-2 pages) and up to two publications; applications without publications will not be considered. The department values active daily participation and a collegial work environment, and Aarhus University offers a range of support services for international researchers, including relocation assistance and a Junior Researcher Development Programme. The application must be submitted via the university’s recruitment system by 31 October 2025. For further information, contact Center Director Professor Mads Rosendahl Thomsen. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI, text, and culture in a supportive and internationally oriented academic setting.
