Chemistry
This postdoctoral position in heterogeneous catalysis is offered by the Catalysis and Self-Assembly (CATSA) Group at Linköping University, located at the Norrköping Campus. The group, established in 2024 and led by Assistant Professor Alexander Holm, focuses on developing fundamental concepts and new processes to enhance the activity and selectivity of heterogeneous catalysis, with applications in producing fertilizers, medicines, foods, fuels, and plastics. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and well-funded project (e-foods) involving six postdocs across several research groups, with access to advanced infrastructure for gas and vapor phase catalysis and world-class characterization facilities through collaboration with Stockholm University’s electron microscopy center. Research will center on vapor phase reactions of high boiling point liquids, exploring how vapor-phase processing can enable new chemistries by increasing reactant diffusion rates and overcoming solubility limitations. Key research questions include differences in reaction mechanisms between vapor and liquid phases, reactor design for high-throughput vapor-phase processing, and the thermal and vapor pressure requirements for successful reactions. The postdoc will conduct experiments using a packed bed reactor capable of handling multiple gases and vapors at high pressures, synthesize heterogeneous catalysts, utilize advanced characterization techniques (electron microscopy, various spectroscopies, XPS, XRD, BET), and collaborate with computational chemists. The position is based in both the CATSA and Berggren groups within the Department of Science and Technology. Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or related fields, and demonstrate expertise in heterogeneous catalysis, reaction mechanism elucidation, or laboratory flow reactor design. The role requires self-motivation, a strong interest in fundamental research, and excellent English skills. The contract is for two years, with possible extension to three years, and includes a competitive salary (starting at 42,000 SEK/month), paid vacation, health-care coverage, parental leave, and pension benefits. Applications should be submitted in English and include a cover letter, CV, and transcripts. The deadline is December 1, 2025. The university values diversity and equal opportunities.
