Fully Funded PhD in Seismic Hazard Mapping, Site Response, and Soil–Structure Interaction at University of Trento

Fully funded PhD position at the University of Trento, Italy, in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering. The project is on next-generation high-resolution seismic hazard maps, with explicit integration of site amplification, local geology, and dynamic soil–structure interaction. The research aims to advance seismic hazard assessment beyond conventional regional products by combining probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, microzonation-informed geological and stratigraphic data, nonlinear and frequency-dependent site response, regional-scale soil–structure interaction, and rigorous uncertainty treatment across modelling levels. This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates interested in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, earthquake engineering, structural dynamics, numerical modelling, programming, probabilistic methods, geology, and Earth science. The position is hosted under the supervision of Prof. Marco Broccardo and Dr. Davide Noè Gorini, with collaboration from Dr. Chiara Nardin and Dr. Alfio Viganò. The position lasts 3 years and is fully funded. The start date is November 2026. The application deadline is 2026-05-13 at 16:00 Central European Time. Interested candidates should apply using the provided link and may contact [email protected] or [email protected] for additional information.
