Vienna School of International Studies

Postdoctoral Fellow in International Economics

The Vienna School of International Studies (Diplomatische Akademie Wien) is offering a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in International Economics, with the possibility of a three-year extension upon successful evaluation. The position is designed to foster the professional development of the fellow, allowing a primary focus on independent research while also requiring the teaching of three graduate-level courses per academic year. The school is an associate member of APSIA and specializes in interdisciplinary graduate education, providing excellent research opportunities due to its location in Vienna and proximity to international organizations, especially for research related to diplomacy, governance, and multilateralism. Applicants must have completed or be near completion of a PhD in economics and are welcome from all areas of international economics, including monetary policy, central banking, trade, international finance, growth and development economics, environmental economics, and political economy or public choice, provided their research is connected to international or macroeconomic issues. Preference is given to candidates with empirical or quantitative research methods, excellent econometrics skills, and strong programming abilities, especially in R. Candidates must demonstrate a record of international research achievement, a robust future research agenda, and prior teaching experience at the graduate level. Fluency in English and German is required. The annual salary ranges from EUR 51,000 to 53,000 before taxes and social security, depending on experience and seniority. Application materials, including CV, research agenda, and teaching documentation, should be sent via email, along with two letters of recommendation. The application deadline is 28 February 2026. For further information, applicants may contact Dr. Martin Feldkircher at the provided email address.
