Postdoctoral Position on ID09: X-ray Diffraction and Scattering at ESRF

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France, is offering a postdoctoral position on the ID09 beamline, which specializes in time-resolved X-ray diffraction and scattering studies. ESRF is a world-leading international research center, renowned for its advanced particle accelerator that produces intense X-ray beams for experiments across a wide range of scientific disciplines. The successful candidate will participate in the operation of the ID09 beamline, contribute to ongoing in-house research programs, support external users as a local contact, and develop their own research agenda. The ID09 beamline is equipped for cutting-edge time-resolved X-ray studies in physics, chemistry, and biology, utilizing short X-ray pulses to monitor atomic and molecular structural changes in various systems, including solid-state materials, transition metal complexes, and biomolecules in solution. Research topics currently pursued on ID09 include protein intramolecular motions, fast phenomena in solid-state materials, and chemical reactions in solution, often in collaboration with leading international groups in ultrafast structural dynamics. Applicants should hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or Biophysics obtained within the last three years and demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a diverse, international environment. Interest in instrumentation and data analysis is essential, while experience with ultrafast lasers, time-resolved X-ray methods (scattering/diffraction or spectroscopy), and time-resolved optical spectroscopy are considered valuable assets. The position is offered as an 18-month contract, with the possibility of renewal for an additional 6 to 18 months. ESRF provides a competitive compensation and allowances package, including financial support for relocation to Grenoble, and fosters a vibrant, inclusive workplace. The city of Grenoble offers a dynamic lifestyle in the heart of the Alps. For further details, candidates may contact Dr. Matteo Levantino. Recent publications from the beamline highlight advances in time-resolved X-ray solution scattering, ultrafast phenomena in materials, and laser-induced structural changes. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online and review employment terms on the ESRF website.
