The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is offering five fully funded PhD graduate assistantships in Geospatial Information Sciences (GIS), starting Fall 2026. The GIS program is housed in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS) and is recognized nationally for its excellence in GIScience, computation, and spatial analysis. The program is multidisciplinary, allowing students to engage in research across remote sensing, statistical analytics, geographical modeling, and geospatial AI, with applications to environmental and social processes. Students can take courses across social sciences, geosciences, computer science, management information systems, electrical engineering, and physics, and may choose any subject area of interest to develop and apply GIS methods in their research. The assistantship package includes up to 5 years of tuition waiver, a monthly stipend for 9 months, optional summer funding, and health insurance. UTD is a STEM-focused R1 university located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, a major hub for STEM jobs and Fortune 500 companies. Applicants must have a relevant degree, a minimum GPA of 3.25, and submit transcripts, a personal statement, and three letters of recommendation. GRE scores are preferred but waived for applicants with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The application deadline is December 15, 2025. All applications must be submitted online via the program website. For more information, visit the GIS program page or contact the program administrator.
