PhD Student Position in Sustainable Semiconductor Technology – REC² Cluster, Chair of Nanoelectronics

TUD Dresden University of Technology, recognized as a University of Excellence, offers a dynamic and globally oriented research environment. The Cluster of Excellence "Responsible Electronics in the Climate Change Era (REC²)" is dedicated to addressing the environmental challenges posed by the widespread use of electronics, including resource consumption and electronic waste. REC² aims to establish the scientific foundation for future electronics, focusing on new material platforms, innovative component concepts, and integrated systems that promote ecological, economic, and social sustainability. This PhD position is based at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Institute of Semiconductors and Microsystem (IHM), Chair of Nanoelectronics. The research will center on inventing and improving semiconductor technology processes, integrating them for sustainable fabrication of devices and circuits, and adapting microelectronics processes to REC² materials and applications. Tasks include monitoring and optimizing processes, developing greener solutions, researching direct fabrication of sensors and devices on novel substrates, and creating databases for life cycle assessments. Collaboration with scientists from sustainability and social sciences is encouraged, fostering interdisciplinary research. The position is full-time, limited to 36 months with a possible one-year extension, and offers remuneration according to salary group E 13 TV-L. Additional benefits include a supplementary pension scheme (VBL), discounted job ticket (including Deutschlandticket), health care and sports programs, 30 days of vacation per year, and flexible work arrangements to support work-life balance.
