PhD in Igneous Petrology and Magma Plumbing Systems (DC5), REALISE MSCA Doctoral Network

PhD opportunity in igneous petrology , volcanology , and magma plumbing systems at Leibniz University Hannover within the REALISE MSCA Doctoral Network . The position is Doctoral Candidate 5 (DC5) and focuses on data-driven investigations on the evolution of magma plumbing systems of active volcanoes . The project studies magma storage conditions, magma differentiation, and connections between crustal magma reservoirs using petrological data and machine-learning approaches. Case studies include volcanic systems such as Pico (Azores) and Fogo (Cape Verde) . Methods mentioned include thermobarometry, volatile analysis in glass inclusions, diffusion chronometry, 3D morphology analysis, X-ray computed tomography, and ML-based segmentation and zoning characterization. This is a fully funded 36-month PhD with MSCA doctoral network support. The poster highlights a competitive salary, mobility allowance, and family allowance if eligible, plus international secondments/research stays at KU Leuven and the University of Amsterdam . Eligibility: applicants need a Master's degree or equivalent in Earth Sciences, Geology, Geochemistry, Volcanology, Petrology, or related fields; they must not already hold a PhD; and they must satisfy MSCA mobility rules (not having lived or worked in Germany for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment). Application: the post says applications remain open until the position is filled, while the poster image notes the first-round deadline was 31 March 2026.
