15 Fully Funded PhD Positions in Biology, Diagnostics, and ESKAPE Pathogens (StraDiVarious MSCA Doctoral Network)

The StraDiVarious MSCA Doctoral Network is offering 15 fully funded PhD positions in fundamental biology, with a focus on developing next-generation diagnostics for ESKAPE pathogens. This EU-funded program brings together a vibrant, multidisciplinary team of academics and industry experts across eleven host institutions in Europe, including Stockholm University, Heriot-Watt University, Institut Pasteur, Universidade do Minho, and Eluceda. Research topics span bacterial adhesion, pathogen strain diversity, host-pathogen interactions, organ-on-a-chip models, microfluidic devices, and advanced diagnostic sensor development. Projects include both academic and industry secondments, ensuring comprehensive training and exposure to both sectors. Applicants must not already hold a doctorate and must comply with MSCA mobility rules, which require that candidates have not resided or worked in the host country for more than 12 months in the past three years. A high level of English proficiency is mandatory, demonstrated by standardized tests or prior education. Candidates should prepare a detailed application including a CV, cover letter, thesis information, research outline, and proof of qualifications. Official academic records and English proficiency certificates are required, and a Master's degree (if required) must be completed by July 1, 2026. Two referees' details are also needed. All positions are fully funded for 36 months, covering salary, tuition, and benefits according to MSCA standards. The application deadline is January 6, 2026, with interviews scheduled for February 2026 and positions commencing in August–September 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the StraDiVarious website and review the individual project descriptions. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers interested in biology, diagnostics, analytical chemistry, and translational research on infectious diseases.
