Postdoc Positions in Bioengineering / Systems Biology and Yeast & Mammalian Cell Engineering at Heidelberg University

Two full-time postdoctoral positions are open at the Center for Synthetic Genomics (Center SynGen) in Heidelberg, Germany, within a collaborative project between the laboratories of Prof. Dr. Nora Vögtle and Prof. Dr. Michael Knop at the Center for Molecular Biology of Heidelberg University (ZMBH). The positions focus on Bioengineering / Systems Biology and Yeast & Mammalian Cell Engineering . The project combines systems biology, bioengineering, synthetic genomics, quantitative cell biology, and biochemical techniques to investigate biological design principles across eukaryotic systems. A key model system is yeast, with follow-up work in mammalian models and longer-term translational, gene-therapy-oriented applications. Ideal candidates should have a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, bioengineering, or a related field by the start date. Strong experience in molecular biology is expected, and additional background in yeast genetics, yeast cell biology, systems biology, quantitative biology, yeast genome engineering, synthetic biology, mammalian cell biology, microscopy, biochemical methods, functional genomics, or computational data analysis including AI is especially welcome. Excellent English communication skills and evidence of scientific productivity, independence, and interdisciplinary motivation are required. The positions are full-time, fixed-term for a minimum of 2 years, and are supported by an Advanced Research + Invention Agency-funded project. The start date is negotiable, with as early as June 2026 possible.
