AI-enabled space-borne perception systems for robotic proximity operations

The University of Luxembourg, through its Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), is offering a postdoctoral researcher position in collaboration with Redwire Space Luxembourg. The successful candidate will join the Space Robotics (SpaceR) research group, a vibrant team working on cutting-edge space robotics topics including in-space servicing, assembly, manufacturing, space debris removal, immersive teleoperation, robot multi-modal perception, and multi-robot cooperation. The postdoc will take a leading role in projects focused on AI-enabled space-borne perception systems for robotic proximity operations, contributing to both academic research and industrial collaboration. Responsibilities include developing verification and validation (V&V) frameworks for AI-augmented perception systems, leading hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop test campaigns, and supporting certification processes for AI components in space systems. The candidate will work in state-of-the-art facilities such as the LunaLab, Zero-G Lab, and Robotic Manipulation Lab, and collaborate closely with Redwire Space Luxembourg. Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, expertise in machine learning, computer vision, V&V, formal methods, or safety engineering, and strong programming skills in Python and C++. Experience with PyTorch, ROS, and hardware/software-in-the-loop testing is highly desirable. The position offers a fixed-term contract for 24 months with a competitive salary of EUR 85,176 per year. The University of Luxembourg is committed to diversity and gender parity, and encourages early online applications through its HR system.
