PhD in Adaptive Interactive Experiences in Multimodal Contexts (AI, HCI, Information Systems, Software Engineering)
PhD opportunity at the
University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI)
in Lugano, Switzerland, within the
Institute of Information Systems and Networking (ISIN)
and the Department of Innovative Technologies.
The project is titled
Adaptive Interactive Experiences in Multimodal Contexts
and focuses on
Artificial Intelligence
,
Human-Computer Interaction
,
Information Systems
,
Software Engineering
, and
Machine Learning
. The research is centered on designing and implementing adaptive systems that use multimodal data such as video, audio, inertial data, interaction logs, and contextual inputs to support inclusive interactive experiences.
The PhD work emphasizes system architecture, software pipelines, API integration, real-time adaptation, and post-hoc analysis of user activity and engagement. The project will validate solutions in real-world settings such as museums, schools, therapeutic centres, and inclusive environments. Machine learning is used as an enabling technology, with a focus on integrating existing models rather than developing new ML methods.
Requirements
include a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Software Engineering, or a related field; strong programming and software development skills; experience with system design, API development, integration, and CI/CD; familiarity with ML systems; and good written and spoken English. Interest in UI/UX for interactive systems is a plus.
Funding
: full-time PhD position for three years with a competitive salary aligned with Swiss standards. The role also includes conference/workshop participation support, travel support for dissemination, and access to SUPSI facilities and benefits.
