Two 30-month Postdoc Positions in Global Seismology (PRISM-MTZ)

Two 30-month postdoctoral positions are available in global seismology at the University of Oxford within the NERC-funded Pushing the Frontiers project PRISM-MTZ . The successful candidates will be based in Oxford Earth Sciences and join the DEEPSCAPE group , working with project partners in Strasbourg and Cambridge . The project aims to produce novel constraints on the bulk structure and discontinuity topographies of the mantle transition zone (MTZ) by developing a joint finite-frequency inference framework for normal-mode , surface-wave , and body-wave data. Research will focus on mantle structure , computational seismology , seismic data analysis , and inversions , including adapting existing and developing new analysis and inverse methodologies within a finite-frequency framework. The work is interdisciplinary and will involve interpreting seismological constraints with experts in mineralogical-geodynamic modelling, including the TerraNeo framework. The positions are full-time and offered for a fixed term of 30 months , with flexible start dates between 1 October 2026 and 1 January 2027 . The project also offers funded travel to relevant conferences and visits to project partners in Strasbourg. Eligibility/requirements: applicants should have knowledge of mantle structure and computational seismology, and experience with seismic data analyses and inversions. Application deadline: midday on 20 May 2026 . Interviews are expected on 10–12 June 2026 . How to apply: follow the vacancy links provided in the post and use vacancy ID 185944 . Full details are available via the Oxford vacancy pages.
