Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Sustainable Wood-Based Structural Elements for Green Buildings (MoreWood Project)

The NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT) in Portugal is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the scope of the EUROGIA2030 MoreWood project. This project focuses on increasing the use of wood-based panels and developing sustainable, recyclable structural elements for green and zero-emission buildings. The fellowship is nationally funded by Agência de Inovação (ANI) and will be hosted at the Department of Civil Engineering at NOVA FCT, Caparica. The successful candidate will work under the scientific supervision of Professor Paulina Faria, PhD, and a selection jury comprising Professors Luís Baltazar, Guilherme Coelho, Ana Luísa Fernando, and Margarida Gonçalves. The research will involve structuring, developing, and supervising experimental campaigns for the characterization of tannin-based thermal insulation, panels based on agroforestry residues, recycled polypropylene composites with biomass, and hygrothermal numerical simulation of buildings using these materials. Responsibilities also include analysis of experimental data, preparation of technical reports, and scientific publications. Applicants must hold a PhD in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, Conservation and Restoration, or related fields, obtained within three years prior to the application deadline and from an institution other than NOVA FCT. Foreign degrees must be recognized in Portugal. Candidates should demonstrate strong teamwork skills, the ability to meet deadlines, capacity to work independently, proficiency in Portuguese and/or English, and a track record of scientific publications in relevant areas. The fellowship offers a monthly maintenance allowance of €1,851.00 for a duration of 3 months, with the possibility of renewal within the project period, which is expected to end in October 2026. The expected start date is February 1, 2026. The position is full-time and temporary, with the work primarily based at the Department of Civil Engineering, NOVA FCT. Applications will be evaluated based on scientific qualifications and merit (80%), motivation letter (20%), and, if necessary, an interview. The application must include a CV with publication links, a motivation letter (maximum one page), degree certificate (and recognition if applicable), and any other documentation demonstrating compliance with the admission requirements. Applications must be submitted by email to [email protected] with the subject 'Post-Doc MoreWood' by December 8, 2025.
