PhD Assistant in Experimental Clinical & Health Psychology – Neurodevelopmental Disorders (RiDDL Lab)

Ghent University invites applications for a PhD Assistant position in the Department of Experimental Clinical & Health Psychology, focusing on neurodevelopmental disorders. The role is embedded within the RiDDL lab (Research in Developmental Diversity Lab), renowned for its research on (a)typical learning trajectories and early precursors in developmental psychology. At least 50% of the appointment is dedicated to academic research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation, with the remainder involving teaching and departmental service in subjects related to neurodevelopmental disorders, learning disorders, and perinatal, infant, and toddler psychology. The position offers a two-year contract, renewable twice for two years (up to six years total, subject to positive evaluation), starting no earlier than October 1, 2026. Remuneration follows salary scale AAP3, and Ghent University provides a comprehensive benefits package including training and education opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and more. The university is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in psychology, major clinical psychology (or similar), with the requirement fulfilled at the start of appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the EU, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate excellent teaching and communication skills, teamwork, and sufficient mastery of Dutch to fulfill educational tasks for Dutch-speaking students. Teaching experience or participation in extra training and conferences is recommended. For foreign diplomas in languages other than Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation is required. Application documents must not exceed 10 MB per file. The research will be closely aligned with ongoing projects in the RiDDL lab, offering opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge studies in neurodevelopmental and clinical psychology. The position also involves assisting in teaching activities and internal/external departmental services, providing a well-rounded academic experience. To apply, candidates must submit their application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of July 7, 2026. Required documents include a CV and study results (merged PDF), cover letter (PDF), diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence (if applicable). Late or non-online applications will not be considered. For further information, applicants may contact Prof. Dr. Lien Peters ([email protected]) or Prof. Dr. Petra Warreyn ([email protected]). This opportunity is ideal for candidates seeking to advance their academic career in clinical and developmental psychology, with a strong focus on neurodevelopmental disorders and educational psychology. Ghent University offers a vibrant research environment and excellent support for doctoral candidates.
