Aalto University, located in Espoo, Finland, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Design for Climate-Adaptive Urbanism to join its Department of Architecture within the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. This 2.3-year, full-time position is part of the Horizon Europe project UTOPIZE, which focuses on the co-creation of sustainable, inclusive, and aesthetically engaging public spaces under the New European Bauhaus framework. The successful candidate will work closely with Associate Professor Dr. Pia Fricker, whose research group specializes in generative and immersive design methods, integrating geospatial intelligence to address sustainability challenges in urban and landscape systems. The role involves leading international cross-sectoral design workshops, developing AI-enhanced visualization tools and digital dashboards for participatory engagement, integrating environmental, spatial, and social data into digital twin models for scenario testing and policy simulation, and adapting co-design methods to local contexts in demonstrator sites across Europe. Additional responsibilities include contributing to policy recommendations, design briefs, and dissemination materials, participating in international travel and consortium meetings, publishing in high-impact journals, presenting at conferences, and assisting in preparing grant applications for various funding opportunities. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, specialization in computational design methodologies, and experience in grant writing, research publication, and international interdisciplinary projects. Technical proficiency in computational design tools, immersive environments, AI-driven visualization workflows, data analysis, and geospatial tools is required, along with excellent English language skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
