Joint PhD Position in Transportation Safety and Multimodal Safety Analytics at BITS Pilani and Iowa State University

The Transportation Research Innovation Analysis Lab (TRIAL) at BITS Pilani – Hyderabad Campus, in collaboration with Iowa State University, is inviting applications for a joint PhD position focused on transportation safety, with a particular emphasis on multimodal safety analytics. This unique opportunity allows the selected student to earn two PhD degrees—one from BITS Pilani and one from Iowa State University. The research will involve advanced topics in transportation safety, data analytics, policy analysis, and quantitative modeling, making it ideal for candidates with a strong background in civil or transportation engineering. The successful candidate will spend the first two years at BITS Pilani – Hyderabad Campus and the subsequent two years at Iowa State University, USA. The research will be supervised by Prof. Prasant Sahu and Prof. Rajesh Krishnan at BITS Pilani, and Prof. Anuj Sharma at Iowa State University. The position offers a competitive stipend: ₹37,000-42,000 per month at BITS Pilani and $28,000 per year at Iowa State University, which includes health insurance and a tuition waiver.
