Durham University is offering a PhD scholarship opportunity in the areas of sustainability, digital transformation, and engineering management. The research group focuses on advancing sustainability and digitalisation in project-based sectors, with potential PhD projects covering topics such as CSR/ESG and business model innovation, digital transformation and Industry 4.0 (including AI, digital twins, robotics, blockchain, and analytics), responsible AI and innovation, sustainability transitions and circular economy, and smart and low-carbon cities. Other trending topics are also welcomed. The scholarship includes a UK Home Fee studentship (tuition and stipend) under the supervision of Dr Qian Zhang, and applications are also accepted from self-funded, CSC, and other international/UK/Durham PhD scholarships. Applicants should have backgrounds in engineering, project/construction management, business management, or data/computer science, with desirable skills in quantitative analysis (advanced statistics, SEM, Python, or R), and a strong interest in sustainability, digital transformation, and AI-driven innovation. Research experience, publications, and strong organisational/communication skills are valued. Durham University is recognised as a world-class research institution, ranked highly in UK and global university guides, and offers a supportive environment for doctoral research. To apply, candidates should contact Dr Qian Zhang with their CV, academic transcripts, and optionally a brief research proposal. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview. The CSC scholarship deadline is 16 January 2026.
