Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Education is recruiting a
Specially Appointed Assistant Professor (Research)
for a project focused on
education, ecopedagogy, critical theories, environmental/sustainability pedagogies, and comparative/international education
.
The role is based at the
Graduate School of Education, Tohoku University
in Sendai, Japan. It is a research-only appointment;
teaching is not a component
of the position. The successful candidate will conduct literature reviews, design and carry out qualitative and theory-based ecopedagogical research, analyze data, write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, present at international conferences, and contribute to research proposals, dissemination materials, policy recommendations, and project management.
Eligibility highlights:
applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Education or a closely related field by the start date, have a strong publication record as lead author, demonstrate strong qualitative research skills, and be able to work in multidisciplinary and international teams. English communication is required. Experience in comparative/international education, proposal writing, and project management is desirable.
Employment details:
annual contract renewable based on performance and budget, with employment continuing up to
31 March 2028
. Start date is
1 October 2026
