PhD Opportunity in Ore Geology at Central University of Punjab (2025–26)

The Department of Geology at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, India, is inviting applications for Ph.D. positions (Regular & Part-Time) in Ore Geology for the January 2025–26 intake, under the supervision of Dr. Rahul Mukherjee, Assistant Professor. The doctoral research will focus on ore-forming processes and mineral systems, with emphasis on magmatic-hydrothermal systems, critical mineral enrichment, geochemical and isotopic analysis, and integration of field geology with laboratory-based studies. The department offers excellent research infrastructure, including access to advanced analytical instruments such as SEM–EDX, ICP-MS, XRD, GC-MS, AAS, FTIR, NMR, and more, through the Central Instrumentation Laboratory. Research thrust areas include crustal evolution, hydrothermal systems and ore genesis, magmatic and metamorphic processes, paleoclimate reconstruction, hydrogeology, and low-temperature geochemistry. Specialized labs support petrography, thin section preparation, geochemical sample preparation, mineral separation, hydrogeochemistry, micropaleontology, and geoarchaeology. Eligible and motivated candidates interested in economic geology, mineral exploration, and ore-forming processes are encouraged to apply. The department promotes interdisciplinary research across geochemistry, paleontology, paleobiology, hydrogeology, ore geology, geomagnetism, and igneous petrology. Applicants should review the university prospectus for detailed eligibility criteria and funding information. The last date to apply is 6 January 2026. For application details and further information, visit the university website at www.cup.edu.in or contact the department via [email protected].
