Postdoctoral Research Engineer in Suspect Screening of Environmental Samples (ANR WATER-RECALL Project)

The Université de Caen Normandie, through its PRISMM research centre, is offering a postdoctoral research engineer position focused on suspect screening in environmental samples as part of the ANR-funded WATER-RECALL project. This project aims to assess the impact of global warming and agricultural practices on the quality of river water in Normandy, utilizing advanced analytical chemistry techniques. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team specializing in the analysis of biomarkers of exposure and effect in complex samples using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry. The role involves developing and validating high-performance analytical methods, particularly for the semi-targeted and targeted analysis of pesticides in river water and sediments. The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional two years to expand the research to human biological samples. Key responsibilities include developing suspect screening methods using UHPLC-HRMS/MS, analyzing and interpreting mass spectrometry data, identifying unknown compounds, and validating targeted methods for relevant pesticides. The candidate will also be expected to disseminate research findings at conferences and within professional networks, as well as contribute to scientific publications and technical reports. Applicants must hold a PhD in Analytical Chemistry or a related field, with hands-on experience in suspect screening by LC-HRMS. Essential skills include expertise in sample preparation, liquid chromatography, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and data processing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate scientific rigor, curiosity, teamwork, autonomy, and project management skills. Experience in targeted pesticide analysis and method validation in environmental or human matrices is a plus. The PRISMM centre offers access to cutting-edge analytical facilities, including multiple UHPLC-HRMS/MS and GC-MS/MS systems, as well as automated sample preparation platforms. The research environment is stimulating, with opportunities for creative autonomy, scientific collaboration, and conference participation. To apply, candidates should send a CV, cover letter, and an example of a project or publication to Pr Raphaël Delépée ([email protected]) and Dr Quentin Vandoolaeghe ([email protected]) by February 16th, 2026.
