Postdoctoral Position in Socio-Emotional Impacts of AI Agents at Nanyang Technological University
The Social Well-being, Empathy, and Emerging Technologies (SWEET) Lab at Nanyang Technological University, led by Nanyang Assistant Professor Renwen (Alice) Zhang, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study the socio-emotional impacts of AI agents. The lab focuses on advancing human well-being and flourishing in the digital age, investigating how digital technologies mediate and affect well-being and social relationships, and designing technologies to promote social connection, empathy, and mental health.
Research areas include human-AI relationships and communication, AI-mediated empathetic communication, responsible AI and AI ethics, and digital well-being. Projects explore the motivations, processes, and outcomes of engagement with AI chatbots, trust and relationship development, and the design of social chatbots that empower users. The lab also examines the socio-emotional harms of AI systems, aiming to inform responsible, human-centered design and governance of AI technologies.
Applicants should have a background in communication, psychology, sociology, human-computer interaction, or information science, with strong quantitative, computational, and NLP skills.
