Molecules of Life

The International Max Planck Research School for Molecules of Life (IMPRS-ML) in Munich is currently inviting applications for PhD student positions. The program covers a wide range of research areas including biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics, cell biology, systems biology, and computational biology. IMPRS-ML is a collaborative initiative involving the Technical University of Munich, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried. The faculty includes leading scientists such as Prof. Dr. Karen Alim, Prof. Dr. Roland Beckmann, Dr. John Briggs, Prof. Dr. Elena Conti, and many others, offering expertise in molecular mechanisms, biological systems, and computational biology. Applicants should have an MSc or equivalent degree in biological sciences, biochemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, or a related discipline. Exceptional candidates with a 4-year BSc Honours degree may also be considered depending on their country of study. The application process requires submission of two reference letters. The application portal opens on August 25, 2025, and the deadline for applications is October 7, 2025. Online panel interviews will be held in November 2025, and successful candidates will be invited to Munich for in-person interviews in January 2026, with travel and accommodation costs reimbursed. Letters of acceptance will be sent out by early February 2026, and accepted candidates should start their PhD no later than October 1, 2026.
