PhD opportunity at the University of Toronto in the Intelligent and Interactive Buildings (IIB) Lab with Seungjae Lee (Assistant Professor). The lab is recruiting a fully funded PhD student to start in January 2027 . The project is titled “Transforming Building Energy Solutions with Causal Modeling” and is funded by the New Frontiers in Research Fund – Exploration stream . The student will work on data-driven causal learning methods , human-building interaction , and the development/demonstration of human-centric building solutions . The role includes both methodology research and practical experiments and field work . Relevant study areas include computer science , mathematics , statistics , machine learning , data science , and building/energy-related engineering topics. The ideal candidate should have strong programming skills, scientific writing ability, communication skills, and problem-solving ability, along with a genuine interest in real-world applications.
