PhD and Postdoc Positions in Energy System Cost Allocation and Grid Flexibility at University of Vaasa

Two exciting research positions are available in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Vaasa, Finland, under the supervision of Associate Professor Sinan Küfeoğlu. The research focuses on Energy System Cost Allocation and Residual Cost Recovery, aiming to enhance grid flexibility and address critical challenges in modern energy systems. This interdisciplinary project will run for approximately four years and offers the opportunity to work on either network costs or policy costs and recovery methods. The positions are open to candidates with a technical (engineering) or economics/finance background. No prior experience in electricity markets is required, but a passion for solving energy-related problems and a strong analytical mindset are essential. The research will contribute to the understanding and development of cost allocation strategies and policy mechanisms to support flexible and resilient energy grids. Compensation is competitive: PhD candidates will receive a monthly salary between €2100 and €2900, depending on experience, while postdoctoral researchers will receive €3300 per month. The positions are fully funded for the duration of the project. The start date is as soon as possible, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
