PhD Student (gn) in Virology – Antiviral and Immunomodulatory Agents Against Emerging Viruses

The Institute of Virology at University Hospital Münster is seeking a PhD student to join a research project focused on combating emerging viruses, which pose significant global health threats. The successful candidate will investigate both new and approved antiviral and immunomodulatory agents, targeting hyperinflammatory and emerging viral pathogens. The research will utilize advanced and classical techniques in virology, including work in BSL-3/S3 laboratories, as well as immunology approaches such as animal studies and molecular biology methods. The goal is to deepen understanding of virus-induced pathophysiology and explore potential therapeutic strategies, particularly in the context of drug resistance. The position offers a fixed-term contract for three years at 65% part-time employment, with salary according to TV-L E13. The environment is supportive, fostering creativity, innovation, and interdisciplinary exchange. Additionally, the role includes opportunities for 1-2 research stays at partner institutions in Belo Horizonte, Florianopolis, and/or Rio de Janeiro. Applicants must have a Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related field, with a strong background in virology or immunology and experience in animal testing. Candidates should be responsible, innovative, able to work independently and collaboratively, and possess excellent English and communication skills. Application materials should include a letter of motivation, CV, certificates, and a letter of recommendation or contact details for two references. The application deadline is November 19, 2025.
