Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions in Early Modern Studies and Seventeenth-Century English Literature at Birkbeck, University of London

Two part-time Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available at Birkbeck, University of London in the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication . The posts are part of the Leverhulme Trust-funded project Written Worlds in Seventeenth-Century England , a 13-month collaborative humanities project at 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week). The project focuses on early modern studies , English literature , history , manuscript studies , and archival research , with particular attention to nonelite writing in seventeenth-century England. One post will focus on nonelite writing produced in the provinces, and the other on writing produced by nonelite women. Successful candidates will work with Principal Investigator Professor Sue Wiseman and Co-Investigator Dr Brodie Waddell . Responsibilities include identifying and analysing historical and literary sources, conducting archival research in manuscripts and printed materials, visiting archives and collections, contributing to the project database, assisting with textual editing, liaising with collaborators, and developing an individual research paper for presentation and publication. Applicants should have a completed PhD in a relevant discipline such as English Literature or History, a strong foundation in early modern studies, and the ability to work with English-language materials from c.1570–1730. Publication experience or clear publication plans are expected, and experience with databases or digital research tools is desirable. The salary is £22,124 to £25,189 per annum at 0.5 FTE (full-time equivalent £44,247 to £50,379), with London Weighting, pension benefits, and pro-rated annual leave.
