PhD in Molecular Modeling and Thermosensitive/Degradable Polymers at University Paris-Saclay
The Université Paris-Saclay is offering a PhD position in the field of molecular modeling and thermosensitive/degradable polymers, specifically targeting Chinese candidates eligible for the CSC (China Scholarship Council) funding scheme. The research will be conducted within the 'Nano-médicaments innovants pour le traitement des maladies graves' team at the Institut Galien Paris-Saclay, under the supervision of Dr. Julien Nicolas, with collaboration from Prof. T. Ha-Duong (BioCIS, Univ Paris-Saclay/CNRS).
The project focuses on the design, modeling, and physicochemical characterization of thermosensitive polymer architectures. The aim is to simulate, using coarse-grained molecular dynamics and other modeling techniques, a library of polymers with diverse compositions and architectures, and to predict their behavior in solution under various conditions (e.g., temperature, salt gradients). The polymers will be synthesized via controlled radical polymerization to obtain well-defined structures (linear, block, star polymers, etc.). Experimental protocols will be used for synthesis and characterization (DSC, DLS, NMR, SEC, spectroscopies), and results will be compared with modeling predictions to refine the models and establish structure-property relationships.
Candidates should have a strong background in organic and polymer chemistry, with expertise in physico-chemistry, colloids/nanoparticles, and analytical techniques. Knowledge of supramolecular chemistry and molecular modeling is appreciated. The successful candidate will be autonomous, rigorous, and enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry and colloids. Good communication skills and an intermediate level of English are required.
The PhD is fully supported by the CSC-UPSaclay program, covering four years (2026-2030), with access to state-of-the-art facilities at the Institut Galien Paris-Saclay. The research will contribute to high-impact publications and presentations at international conferences. The student will also participate in doctoral training, seminars, and networking events organized by the university.
Application deadline is January 21, 2026. Interested candidates should apply via the Université Paris-Saclay portal and ensure they meet CSC eligibility criteria. For more information, refer to the official announcement and contact the supervisor if needed.
