PhD Fellow in Application of Generative AI for Sustainable Innovation and Imaginaries in Organizations

The Department of Information Technology at OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University is offering a fixed-term PhD research fellowship focused on the application of generative AI for sustainable innovation and imaginaries in organizations. This project addresses the research question: “How is generative AI (GenAI) used for and in sustainable innovation in organizations?” and aims to bridge artificial intelligence with sustainable innovation, two critical global challenges. The project will empirically study GenAI's use and implementation in sustainable innovations across both public and private sector organizations, while also developing theoretical foundations in future-making and organizational imaginaries. The research will contribute to the academic community by producing 3-4 high-quality journal publications. The selected candidate will join an experienced group of researchers and collaborators, with the project scope tailored to their interests. The position is available as either a 3-year (100% research) or 4-year (75% research, 25% career-advancing work) appointment, with the goal of completing the PhD within the chosen timeframe. As a PhD Fellow at OsloMet, you may apply for funding for extended research stays abroad. Applicants must have a master’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a relevant social science discipline (such as economics or psychology), normally comprising 120 ECTS credits. If the degree has fewer credits, documentation must confirm eligibility for doctoral studies in the awarding country. All exams for the master’s degree must be completed by 30 June 2026. Minimum average grade B on master's degree subjects and minimum grade B on the master's thesis are required, with exceptions detailed on the doctoral programme website. Written and oral proficiency in English is mandatory. Admission to the PhD programme Innovation for Sustainability at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design is a prerequisite, and application for admission must be submitted within three months of the start date. Advantageous qualifications include a solid understanding of digital technology in organizations and experience with complex project work. Personal qualities such as analytical skills, motivation, independence, and collaborative ability are emphasized. OsloMet values diversity and inclusivity, welcoming all qualified candidates, including those with gaps in employment, education, or training. The university offers engaging work assignments, participation in research groups, opportunities for academic development, welfare schemes, sports and cultural offers, and loan and pension arrangements with the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The workplace is located at the Pilestredet campus in Oslo, with potential for relocation to the new Lillestrøm campus in the future. The salary for the position is 550,800 NOK per year, with a 2% deduction for pension contributions. Funding for extended research stays abroad may be applied for. The application process requires submission through OsloMet’s electronic recruitment system, including an application letter, CV, reference letters, certificates/diplomas, transcripts, and documentation of foreign education if applicable.
