PhD student in Computer and Systems Sciences, with focus on Data Science
The Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) at Stockholm University is offering a PhD position focused on Data Science. DSV is a vibrant research and educational environment with over 200 employees and 4,500 students, bridging technology with humanities, social sciences, and behavioral sciences. The department is located at Stockholm University's campus in Kista, with plans to move to the main Frescati campus in the coming years.
This PhD project addresses the challenges of extracting actionable insights from large-scale, heterogeneous, and dynamic datasets generated across domains such as healthcare, finance, transportation, and social media. The research will focus on advanced data mining and machine learning methods, particularly for temporal and time-dependent data. Key areas include data integration, real-time analytics, model scalability, interpretability, and the identification of meaningful patterns and predictive signals in evolving datasets. The project will build on ongoing research in machine learning for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, emphasizing interpretable and trustworthy data science. Empirical evaluation on real-world datasets is expected, contributing to both scientific understanding and practical relevance.
The PhD student will join a strong national and international network, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, seminars, and scientific exchange within academia and industry. The position offers a competitive fixed salary for four years, wellness benefits, and funding for books, conference travel, and professional growth. Academic development is strongly supported.
