Fully Funded PhD Studentships in Acoustics, Engineering, and Sound Science (2026 Entry)

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Sound Futures is offering several fully funded PhD studentships for September 2026 entry. This industry-driven CDT is a collaboration between the University of Salford, University of Sheffield, University of Bristol, and University of Southampton, with over fifty industry and government partners. Students will have access to world-class facilities such as the Salford Acoustics Research Centre, Wind Tunnel Facility in Bristol, and the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. The programme is designed to provide deep specialist knowledge in acoustics and sound, alongside transferable skills and interdisciplinary training. Applicants from backgrounds in Acoustics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Audiology, Physics, Psychology, and Environmental Science are encouraged to apply. The studentships are fully funded for home-fees students, covering tuition, a UKRI-rate stipend, and a research support grant. Enhanced stipends are available for widening participation. International funding is limited and highly competitive. The application process involves exploring available projects, attending a webinar, and submitting both a personal details form and a project application form (up to three projects). The deadline for applications is 11 January 2026. The CDT is committed to supporting applicants from underrepresented groups and offers mentoring and interview opportunities for eligible UK applicants. For more information, visit the CDT website or attend the applicant webinar.
