PhD Position in Maritime AI Business Models and Financial Aspects at NTNU

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is recruiting a PhD candidate for a project focused on AI-driven business models and financial performance in the maritime industry. The position is based at NTNU Ålesund and is closely connected to the Norwegian Maritime AI Center (2026–2030) and Fjordlab, Norway’s national infrastructure for full-scale maritime testing. The research will explore how artificial intelligence is transforming financial decision-making in maritime companies, including capital allocation, cost structures, risk management, asset utilization, and the development of new revenue models such as servitization and performance-based contracts. The successful candidate will analyze company data, financial statements, investment decisions, and commercial strategies across the maritime value chain, identifying when and how AI contributes to measurable economic value. The project is interdisciplinary, situated within a vibrant maritime research environment and a strong international network of academic and industry partners. Applicants should have a strong background in finance, economics, industrial economics, business administration, operations research, supply chain management, or applied statistics, and a strong interest in AI, digitalization, and the maritime industry. The position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of business, technology, and maritime innovation, contributing to the advancement of AI applications in the sector.
