The Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IM CAS) in Prague is offering a postdoctoral position for a researcher to join the Czech-Polish international project “Modern geometrical aspects of linear operators: matrix representations, numerical ranges and related matters.” The project is coordinated by Prof. Vladimír Müller (IM CAS) and Prof. Yuriy Tomilov (IM PAN) and is funded by the Czech Science Foundation. The research focuses on matrix representations of linear operators on Hilbert spaces, the theory of numerical ranges, operator norm estimates, and functional calculi. The project aims to deepen understanding of the relationships between these areas of operator theory and draws on abstract operator theory, von Neumann algebras, complex analysis, functional calculi, partial differential equations, topology, set theory, and combinatorial methods. The position is full-time, temporary, and does not include teaching duties. Applicants should have completed their PhD within the last 4 years (or will have completed it before the time of hiring) and possess a strong background in functional analysis, especially operator theory. The successful candidate will work on project tasks and have access to funds for travel to conferences, research visits, and inviting external collaborators. The Institute offers flexible working hours, support for female researchers with children (including home office and part-time options), a kindergarten for employees' children, and affordable accommodation for the first 3-6 months. The selection committee will evaluate applicants based on publication record and professional achievements, with equal opportunities and preference for disabled applicants in case of equal qualifications. Applications must include two letters of reference and be submitted by October 22, 2025. Online interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held in November, and all applicants will be notified by the end of November. For further details and to apply, visit the application portal.
