Institute for Social Law - Doctoral Scholarship in Pension Law (100%)
The Institute for Social Law at KU Leuven is offering a doctoral scholarship for research in pension law, with a particular focus on the accrual of supplementary pensions in the public sector. The Institute is renowned for its education and research in social law, including welfare law and youth protection law, and maintains a tradition of both fundamental and policy-relevant research. The research team adopts an interdisciplinary and empirical approach, ensuring that projects are not only academically rigorous but also socially and practically relevant.
The doctoral project subject will be determined in mutual consultation, but must align with the core themes of the research team. The successful candidate will join a close-knit team led by Professor Yves Stevens and collaborate with researchers affiliated with other Flemish universities. The position includes limited teaching duties, such as supervision of papers and master's theses, and offers frequent contact with practitioners and policymakers, providing valuable exposure to the field of pension law.
Applicants must have a master's degree in law or be a final-year law student with excellent academic results (cum laude or higher). Proficiency in Dutch, French, and English is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in research and the subject matter, including its social importance and practical and policy dimensions. The Institute values meticulous, systematic, and persistent work habits, self-confidence, openness to constructive criticism, and teamwork.
The scholarship offers full-time fixed-term employment for one year as a doctoral fellow, renewable up to a maximum of four years. KU Leuven provides a stimulating and pleasant working environment, with respect for academic freedom, commitment, critical thinking, and personal development. The university is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, and does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
