About this position

The AI Ethics & Governance Fellowship is a 12-week, fully virtual program designed to equip African professionals with the knowledge, frameworks, and networks needed to design ethical and accountable AI governance systems. Organized by the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) in partnership with the Africa Hub for Innovation & Development (AHFID) and supported by Luminate, this fellowship targets researchers, policy makers, legal professionals, and technology leaders across Africa.

Participants will gain access to a pan-African network of leaders shaping AI policy, learn to design AI governance frameworks tailored to African contexts, and build practical policy tools, audits, and accountability systems. The program includes advanced training in AI ethics, policy, and governance, mentorship from African and global experts, and a hands-on capstone project with real policy impact. Graduates receive a certificate of completion and join a professional alumni network.

Eligibility requires applicants to be Nigerian or African citizens residing on the continent, able to commit 6-8 hours weekly for 3 months, and have reliable internet and a laptop. Women and youths are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate interest or experience in AI, digital policy, ethics, governance, or technology regulation, and proficiency in English. Current roles in policy influencing or implementation are advantageous. Selection prioritizes sectoral, geographic, and gender balance.

The fellowship is fully funded, with no tuition or participation fees. Applications are open until April 10, 2026. To apply, submit an online application form with a statement of interest and professional background. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for interviews or additional screening. For more information and to apply, visit the official fellowship page.
