About this position

The University of Guelph is now accepting applications for the prestigious 2026 Arrell Scholarships, designed for graduate students committed to advancing the future of food through research and leadership. These scholarships are open to both domestic and international students entering eligible master's or PhD programs in Fall 2026. The Arrell Food Institute’s mission is to produce more nutritious food, grow the economy, and reduce the environmental and social impacts of the agri-food system. Research areas include food security, sustainable agriculture, soil science, livestock production, business, social sciences, nutrition, and related fields.

Successful applicants will receive $50,000 CAD per year for up to two years (master’s) or four years (PhD), along with access to leadership development programs and collaborative projects addressing global food security challenges. Recipients will participate in experiential learning, such as the UNIV*6050 course, and work with faculty, industry, and community partners to drive systemic change in food systems. The scholarship cannot be held with certain other major awards and requires full-time registration and satisfactory academic progress.

Eligibility requires a minimum A- average, a compelling research statement, and demonstrated alignment with the Arrell Food Institute’s vision. Applicants must submit a complete graduate program application and a separate Arrell Scholarship application, including a statement of research interests, CV, unofficial transcripts, and a reference letter from a proposed supervisor. Selection is highly competitive and includes an interview for shortlisted candidates. Early engagement with potential faculty supervisors is encouraged. The application deadline is April 15, 2026. For more details and to apply, visit the University of Guelph’s graduate studies website.
