Offer Description
A call is now open for the award of 1 Postdoctoral Research Scholarship (BIPD) within the scope of the project “ REUSE - Enzymatic CO2 Capture in a Rotating Packed Bed and Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction to Useful Products” (GA 101172954), with financial support from Horizonte Europa, from Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area : Sciences, Applied Biochemistry, and Engineering
2. Funding Source: Horizon Europe
3.Admission requirements :
1 ) Additionally, candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements:
i) hold a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or Applied Biochemistry, with a final grade equal to or higher than 16 (on a scale 0 to 20);
ii) be fluent in spoken and written Portuguese language. If they are not native speakers of Portuguese, they must have language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for Portuguese. Candidates who are not nationals of countries where Portuguese is an official language must provide proof of proficiency in Portuguese.
2) Preferred requirements include: experience in research work and publication of scientific papers (5+).
The PhD examination must be completed prior to the signing of the grant contract, and the candidate may submit a declaration of honor stating that they meet the requirements regarding possession of the doctoral degree.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.
4. Eligibility : Eligible candidates are those who meet the provisions of paragraph a) of no. 1 of Article 2 of the Research Grant Holder Statute, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28, and Article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro.
5. Work Plan : The work plan to be developed during the scholarship is within the scope of the project tasks, including:
a) Literature review of the co-combustion/co-gasification process for energy production and integration into complementary systems, as well as synergies with the enzymatic component in the packed-bed reactor.
b) Numerical simulation of the various phenomena of biomass decomposition and transformation.
c) Dissemination of the results obtained, preparation of progress reports and scientific articles, and support to project management activities.
6. Applicable legislation and regulations : Research Grant Holder Statute, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28; Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro, Regulation no. 292/2020, published in the Diário da República no. 61, 2nd Series, of March 26; Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 (Legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
7.Place of work : The work will be developed at the Department of Environment and Planning and Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Valter Bruno Reis e Silva and Professor Luís António da Cruz Tarelho.
8.Duration of the scholarship : The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting in November 2025, and may be renewed up to the maximum limit of approved funding, and must not exceed the limits defined in paragraphs 5 and 6 of Article 9 of Regulation no. 292/2020, of February 28, published in the Diário da República, no. 61, 2nd Series, of March 26 (Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro).
9. Monthly maintenance allowance : The scholarship amount is €1,851.00 , according to the table of monthly maintenance allowances set out in Annex III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro, subject to updates that may occur and be applicable. The grant holder may also be reimbursed for the corresponding amount of Voluntary Social Insurance, in case of adherence. In the case the candidate is enrolled in a doctoral programme, he/she will receive an additional monthly supplement regarding fees payment foreseen in the Rectoral Order nº58 -REIT/2022 – University of Aveiro. The supplement value will be precisely defined according to the doctoral programme in which the candidate is enrolled. The amount is subject to updates that may occur and that are applicable to it.
10.Selection methods : The selection methods to be used are Curricular Evaluation, with the option of Interview. The Curricular Evaluation, with a weighting of 0-20 points, will be carried out according to the following criteria and weightings:
- Academic qualifications and Curriculum Vitae in the scientific area of the competition (60%);
- Experience in areas considered relevant to the work to be carried out (25%);
- Letter of motivation highlighting competence and experience in the field of work to be carried out (15%).
If the jury considers that do not have the conditions for deciding based on Curricular Evaluation, an Interview may be used. If an Interview is made, the final evaluation will be weighted 60% for the Curricular Evaluation and 40% for the Interview .
The jury reserves the right to not admit candidates for Interview that do not reach the minimum classification of 10 points in a scale from 0 to 20 points, in the Curricular Evaluation.
The jury reserves the right to not a ssign the Research Scholarship if no ne of the candidates has the appropriate profile, or if none of the candidates reach the minimum final score of 10 points on a scale of 0-20 points.

12.Application deadline and form :
The call is open from 20th to 31th October 2025, with applications only being accepted within the established deadline.
Applications should include the following mandatory documents: certificate(s) of qualifications of academic degrees, history of curricular units/subjects (and respective classifications) of academic degrees, curriculum vitae signed and dated, declaration of honor, application form , motivation letter, supporting documents of training or other supporting documents considered relevant. The candidate should also indicate the e-mail address to be notified for all purposes within the scope of this procedure.
Failure to comply with the deadline for submission of the application, as well as the incorrect formalization of the application, result in the exclusion of the application.

13.Publication/notification of results :
The evaluation results will be announced within a maximum of 60 working days from the application submission deadline, by notifying the applicants. Applicants are informed, in a prior hearing, in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Code, of the probable outcome of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days from this notification, present their position on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector within 10 working days of their notification.
14.Validity of the competition : The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 31st December 2025, for the purpose of constituting a reserve selection list.
